We've launched the Remembering the First World War Photo Contest, where entrants can submit photos of war landmarks, objects, memorials, sites and place names for a chance to win one of five prize packs.

As inspiration for shutterbugs looking for ideas of the types of photos to take, our photo intern Jessica Toczko set out across Ottawa to capture many of the sites in Canada's capital honouring those who sacrificed their lives in the First World War. From the Book of Remembrance in the Memorial Chamber inside the Peace Tower to street signs and cemeteries, Toczko's pictures demonstrate that there are memorials to the war all around us.

If you want to learn more about how the First World War shaped our country, pick up a copy of the July/August issue of Canadian Geographic commemorating the 100th anniversary of the war.
