The Royal Canadian Geographical Society brought its Parks Canada giant floor map to Parliament Hill on January 26 for a special reception in honour of Canadian Museums Day.

The event capped off two days of meetings between Members of Parliament, Senators, Hill staff and museum professionals from across the country to discuss the importance of museums and future opportunities. Guests explored the floor map - which took up almost the entire room - and posed for selfies with Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly, Speaker of the House Geoff Regan and other elected officials.

RCGS CEO John Geiger addressed the gathering, saying the RCGS is proud to support Canadian museums, which help the organization fulfill its mandate of making Canada better known to Canadians and the world.

"It is our hope that more opportunities will arise to put geography at the service of our heritage," he said.
