Photos of the northern lights from Can Geo's Instagram community.

For years, Canadian Geographic has been highlighting the remarkable photographs our readers and followers share with us through a variety of media. Our Photo Club is one of Canada’s largest online photography communities, and social media users regularly share their views of Canada — and the world — by tagging #ShareCanGeo and #CanGeoTravel on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Last year, we decided to celebrate our incredible community and Canada's sesquicentennial by producing a special book, 150 Ultimate Canadian Instagram Photos. In early 2018, we'll be publishing another collectors' edition featuring more photographs from #ShareCanGeo contributors.

Each week on Thursday, we'll share 10 amazing photos grouped around a certain theme as a digital version of the 'In a snap' page in our regular issues. This week's theme is the northern lights.

Want to see more? We’ll be sharing a #CanGeoTravel edition each Tuesday, and more #ShareCanGeo photos will be shared online every Thursday. Until then, click through to @CanGeo and @CanGeoTravel on Instagram, where Northwest Territories-based photojournalist Pat Kane (@patkanephoto) has taken over our feed to showcase life in Canada’s north.
