Mothership Adventures

The remote coastal wilderness of British Columbia offers some of the most spectacular scenery and prime wildlife viewing in the world. Inaccessible to most, this area is perfectly suited to our mothership tours where we travel and explore aboard our luxury heritage vessel, Columbia III.

British Columbia’s coastal scenery varies greatly as one travels north. Desolation Sound, the southern most area Mothership Adventures visits, boasts warm, clear freshwater lakes, mazes of islands covered with red-barked arbutus trees and a remote sea bird nesting colony carpeted with wild flowers. All this, back-dropped by the snow-capped Coast Mountains, makes Desolation Sound a coastal paradise!

Northeast of Vancouver Island lies the Broughton Archipelago and Johnstone Strait, home of a famous population of resident killer whales. A meeting point of the open ocean riches and the tidal mixing of Johnstone Strait, this area offers some of the richest marine life in the world, along with beautiful island scenery and a deep First Nations history. Guests travel from around the world to view this unique summer congregation of killer whales and humpback whales. Our tours to this area offer a wonderful combination of wildlife viewing, island exploring and First Nations culture.

On British Columbia’s wild central coast, the Great Bear Rainforest has remained an alluring stretch of untouched wilderness. This vast area has it all! On the exposed outer coast, the rocky windswept islands with their picturesque sandy beaches are home to diverse intertidal marine life. Inland, the steep-sided glacial-carved fjords have large salmon spawning rivers entering them in lush river estuaries. These are home to abundant populations of bears and wolves who feed on the spawning salmon. Grizzlies stroll the riverbanks, fishing for salmon, and wolves howl in the hills behind. In certain areas the elusive white spirit bear can be seen walking the streams looking for a salmon dinner.

Mothership Adventures offers a variety of tours to these spectacular areas. Focuses vary from kayaking, natural history, first nations culture, photography, painting and videography. All this can be enjoyed from the comfort of our mothership with certified crew, qualified naturalists, gourmet food and cozy accommodation.
