Your Adventures
2008 Youth Expedition: Cape Farewell Canada
Twenty-eight high school students from Canada, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico, Scotland, Germany, India and the United Kingdom boarded a research vessel in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Sept. 7, 2008. As ambassadors of their schools and communities, these students set out on a journey to observe and interpret the effects of climate change in the Arctic. This voyage, Cape Farewell, is created by an organization of artists who combine arts and science with the aim to raise awareness about the environment. Their hope is to inspire the youth to share their experience and influence the world to find solutions to this problem. For all the blogs, videos and photos visit capefarewellcanada.ca.

A Moment’s Clarity
SEPTEMBER 19, 2008

Whats the craic?? Ok well over the last few days we have been doing a range of different things! On Sunday we went into Nuuk which is the capital of Greenland! There we were made very welcome by the local choir, which they sang to us! We also went to the museum and the fish market! – both very fun! Yesterday we went into a wee village and went for a hike up the mountain! Man theres billions of mountains and it feels as if we have climbed thousands of them, but its very fun! Today we only got on land once but it was from 8.30 – 12.30 so it was a good day! We looked at the different vegetation and brought back samples to analyse on the ship!

I cant believe its nearly the end of our trip! Theres like only 4 more days to go! I have made so many new friends! Its awesome! I also done my video three the other day so hopefully yous will have all seen that too! Hope alls well!

SEPTEMBER 17, 2008

Only a couple more days until I see you all again. I’m excited, but also sad that this experience has had to end. The most memorable moment of the voyage for was seeing the whales, and also visiting the greenlandic village of Tasisuaq.

Seeing whales was just something incredible, and in the crossing to Baffin Island they got really close to the ship. Tasisuaq was like another planet. All the buildings were so different to the world I know back home, and seeing the villagers way of life was an experience of a lifetime.

If I had to live in any of the places we’ve visited I’d choose to live in the old side of Nuuk. The coloured houses  down by the fjord, were something you only see in fairytales. However down there is only a ten minute walk from the centre of Nuuk, which has supermarkets, shops, facilities and even an escalator. It’s probably the only city in the world where you feel the fresh air.

We’re in Baffin Island at the moment, and I’ve not had a really memorable moment here as of yet, but snow in September was really cool.

Only four more days until I am with you all again, but I think it could be quite be emotional saying goodbye to all these wonderful people, who are almost my second familly.

Please include my SATS results in the responses.
