Seal Wars

Thanks to British pop star Paul McCartney, Canada's seal hunt is back in the spotlight. What do you think of Canada's current sealing practices? Do you feel the hunt should be banned? Or do you think our attention should focus on other wildlife issues such as the spotted owl or Massassauga rattler? What do you think of Canada being once again at the centre of this dispute? Tell us your opinion.

Of course Newfoundlanders are going to
support the seal hunt since this gets
all the sealers off the hook from
working the rest of the year. It's
time the people step up to the plate
like the rest of Canada has and look
to other industries to find work. The
ONLY reason why Newfoundland continues
to get away with this is their lack of
employment that they seem to find for
their people. If they could find jobs
in other areas to sustain themselves
then the rest of us wouldn't have to
continue to pay our federal tax money
to subsidize this horrifying event.
Instead of Newfoundlanders defending
the practice to be a welfare province
how about standing up and working in a
sustainable industry like the rest of
us? Stop making excuses not to work
Newfoundland!

95% of seals are killed are less than 4 weeks old. They are too young to know they are being hunted and are so friendly that they'll go right up and greet the same people that are set out to kill them. They won't even try to escape as they are extremely friendly creatures.

The European Union is considering a full ban of imports. The United States have already banned imports and are moving to pass a Senate motion to denounce the hunt. Many European countries have already banned the importation of products.
Economically its costing Canada in tourism revenue, Canadian seafood boycotts, restaurant boycotts and our overall national image.

The hunt generates a mere $16 million in revenue. The sanctions imposed on us far exceedthe value of the hunt.
Many vets have done independent researchand found that many seals are skinnedalive or do not die right away. Thehunters are under tight deadlines tokill as many seals within a 1-2 day period.

This is not a small scale event, last year 330,000 harp seals were killed. Noother country in the world even comesclose to having a similar size slaughterof large marine animals.
All sorts of Hollywood celebs (Pamela Anderson, Pink, Martin Sheen, Kim Basinger, Paul McCartney, etc) havespoken out against the hunt. Every year more of them are signing on to the cause.

I've been reading through alot of these comments, and although tons of people are saying that BABY SEALS ARE NOT KILLED, people choose to ignore it! I think alot of people posting comments don't know anything about the seal hunt... just from the videos they see. Pretty much everyone on here who's against the seal hunt, basically just thinks they're cute and it's a sin to kill a defenseless animal. First of all, please find out from a reliable, un-biased source on the facts. And baby seals, and seals being inhumanely killed... IS NOT THE FACTS. Hey... here's an idea: How bout we just stop the seal hunt, and see what happens! Do you even realize how that would affect the fish populations??? The number of fish would decline rapidly! THE EARTH NEEDS TO KEEP A BALANCE... if no animals were killed, it would throw everything into chaos! You can't disagree with that. I would strongly suggest for all people who are against the seal hunt, to PLEASE GET THE FACTS... AND NOT FROM AN ANTI-SEALING WEBSITE. They'll just tell you what they choose to tell. I'm a Newfoundlander... and extremely proud of it.

Freeze seal carcasses, and drop them off to the starving polar bears.

Vegitarian! You cruel and heartless butcher. pulling poor innocent vegetables from their safe dwelling beneath the ground. Breaking and snapping roots off. Slicing, dicing chopping, peeling, boiling, baking them all. Is there nothing you wouldn't do to a vegetable? You don't even need to eat vegetables. They are high carb, high calorie and are proven to be only stored as fat. when was the last time you saw a carrot living freely in the wild. You and your soy milk, soy cheese, soy bread, soy soy. mass producing soy to just mash them into a pulp and mold them into your next simulated food product. Why don't you make a soy rope, cause you're going to hell.
