Although many Acadians eventually returned to their Maritime homeland and re-established strong cultural ties, even more put down roots elsewhere. Today, some 300,000 Acadians are concentrated in various Maritime regions (significant numbers live in larger centres, such as Halifax and Fredericton, but comprise a relatively small proportion of the cities’ overall population).
