Parks for all
LAST FALL, the federal government announced it would create 10 new national parks and five
new marine conservation areas over the next five years. In the March/April issue of Canadian
Geographic, join us as we look at this, the most ambitious conservation plan since the establishment
of the national park system in 1885 with the creation of Banff National Park. Online, we explore
ways in which Parks Canada has helped make our parks more available to everyone while also
taking steps to preserve species at risk.
Easier access - All-terrain wheelchairs help make our parks available to everyone
Saving species at risk - Rare plants and animals benefit from habitat protected by our national
parks
Park points - Significant events in the history of Parks Canada
