Born in Regina and raised in Calgary, photographer Laura Leyshon has travelled across the Alberta-Saskatchewan border hundreds of times on holidays and summer vacations. “With both provinces’ centennials in mind,” she says, “I got out a map and took a trip down the border looking for a story. I came across Lloydminster, Canada’s only two-province city.” Leyshon lived in Sweden for more than a decade before returning to Calgary, where she graduated from the photojournalism program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1998. She then went to work for Swedish daily newspapers, returning to Canada last winter to be near her aging grandmothers.
