Great! Different life styles and values are cutting across keeping our bodies healthy!

You say obesity roughly doubled between 1981 and 2009. That would be date-coincident with high fructose corn syrup being put into foods starting in the 70s. That makes you want to eat more and is used to increase sales. That is in ketchup, etc. - not just what is normally considered as junk food.

How would travel time (vs distance) change the food desert map? I think many places with terrible transit might be a similar travel time (i.e. over a half hour travel).

"For the purposes of the study associated with this map, Gilliland categorized any supermarket as a source of healthy food. He points out that there are many areas on the map (in red) that can be up to 35 kilometres away from a supermarket. These are called food deserts and are typically small towns or hamlets."

Isn't there an argument to be made that supermarkets stock mostly manufactured food, which may not be 'healthy'.

Would you consider preparing a map that shows access to Farmers' Markets, where mostly raw or lightly-manufactured home-made, home-style, food is sold?

My small town has both super and farmers' markets. How common is this in Southern Ontario?
