Community Awards |
There are six categories of environmental achievement in the Community
Awards program:
Climate Change recognizes
an individual or community group that is taking action to develop
or promote strategies or technologies that will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions, encourage energy efficiency and the use of renewable
energy sources or improve local air quality.
Conservation recognizes an
individual or community group that is taking action to raise awareness
or support for the protection of rare plants, animals, ecosystems
and natural resources such as Canada’s fresh water.
Environmental Health recognizes
an individual or community group that is taking action to identify
the existence of pollution and its effects on human health or developing
programs that mitigate the effects of pollution on human health
and the Earth’s life-sustaining resources such as air and
water.
Environmental Learning recognizes
an individual or community group that is taking action to communicate
environmental knowledge, raising awareness of how natural ecosystems
function or developing pedagogical solutions to environmental issues.
Restoration and Rehabilitation recognizes
an individual or community group that is taking action to rescue
or revitalize damaged or endangered plants, animals or ecosystems.
Sustainable Living recognizes
an individual or community group that is taking action to manage
humankind’s impact on the environment by promoting ecologically
and economically sustainable design, planning, harvesting, building
or consumption.
