Salmon fisheries shut down off California and Oregon coasts

The Pacific Fishery Management Council has shut down both commercial and sport chinook fisheries off the California and Oregon coastlines as a result of the unprecedented collapse of chinook and coho salmon populations. Ocean temperature change, marine conditions and human activities, from in-stream water withdrawal and dams to construction and pollution, have been identified as possible causes.
