• The middle option won the cover vote with 46 per cent of the vote.

Usually, the cover of each issue of Canadian Geographic is selected from our cover vote. (In advance of each edition’s publication we solicit your feedback to help us choose our front page.)

This issue, however, the cover was not among the choices (pictured above). The middle option won (with 46 per cent of votes), but afterward we learned it had already appeared on the cover of another magazine.

That ruled it out. While the runner-up, option one (34 per cent), could have made a nice second choice, there was another great photo that wasn’t part of the vote because we didn’t have a print-quality version of it.

Our staff subsequently located one, and since it so uniquely captures the dramatic peak, we preferred it as a replacement (see right). If you don’t know already, when you learn what world record the mountain holds, you’ll undoubtedly agree this image is certainly worthy of the cover line “ultimate.”
