• Canadian Geographic staff chose the cover on the right for the Canadian Geographic Best Wildlife Photography 2014 special collector's publication.

Talk about an embarrassment of riches. We had four superb options in the cover vote for our special collector’s edition Canadian Geographic Best Wildlife Photography 2014. And selecting a favourite was undoubtedly a difficult task for all, from our staff to the Canadian Geographic followers who participate in our cover vote each issue. (As regular followers know, in advance of each edition’s publication we solicit your feedback to help us choose our cover image.)

This time out, it was a close call for first place; option three (above) garnered just five per cent more votes than option four, at 35 and 30 per cent, respectively. Given the heated race, Canadian Geographic staff weighed in to make the final decision.

Circulation manager Nathalie Cuerrier was a steadfast proponent of option four. And yours truly pointed out that this issue would be on newsstands during the fall, when most so-called “hook-and-bullet” mags have BIG deer gracing their covers. So, lest our special wildlife issue get confused for or lost in the mix of other titles, and given the expertise of Cuerrier and the solid endorsement from voters, we landed on option four as our cover for the issue. (And those popular deer land on the back cover of the edition — not too shabby a consolation prize!)
