With the discovery of one of the lost Franklin ships, divers will begin exploring the wreck site, searching for clues to finally solve the mystery of what happened to those on the 1845 Franklin Expedition. But diving in the frigid Arctic waters holds its own special challenges.

Parks Canada Chief Underwater Archaeologist Ryan Harris talked to Canadian Geographic before this year’s Victoria Strait Expedition in search of the lost Franklin ships began. Watch this video of Harris discussing the conditions and risks divers will face.
