There’s a lot of ways to make Canada better known to Canadians. The Royal Canadian Geographical Society is trying as many ways as possible.

While best known for its iconic magazine, Canadian Geographic, the Society also supports expeditions across the country, provides grants and scholarships for geography research, and promotes geographic literacy through a variety of free teacher resources.

Here’s a bit of what the Society got up to in September.

  1. Malerualik Expedition
    RCGS Fellow and Inuit historian Louie Kamookak led a successful Arctic expedition to further investigate Inuit knowledge of the Franklin expedition.
  2. RCGS progress report
    The RCGS released a report on how the Society has grown since 2010.
  3. 2016 Calendars
    These newly-released calendars are themed, and feature stunning photography from the Can Geo Photo Club.
  4. Canada’s Coolest School Trip
    The Canada’s Coolest School Trip contest is now open for entry by any grade 8 class in Canada.
  5. Canada’s Energy Diet Challenge
    Canada’s Energy Diet Challenge is open for registration. Students learn about energy conservation and win thousands of dollars in prizes.
  6. Together to the Tundra
    The Together to the Tundra expedition returned from two months of paddling in the Arctic, with two kids under ten years old.
  7. October magazine
    The October issue of Canadian Geographic hit newsstands, including an Arctic Quiz that offers prizes.
  8. Best Wildlife Photography
    This latest special photography book from Canadian Geographic features some of the best wildlife photography in the country.
  9. Canadian Boreal Forest giant floor map travels to South Africa
    The Canadian Boreal Forest giant floor map appeared in South Africa for the XIV World Forestry Congress with the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement.
  10. New Photo Club competitions
    Two new photo competitions (Show us Your Canada Photo Competition and Hydro Power Photo Competition) available to photo club members.
